Where I found my passion

As a Child

As a little girl, I always loved to dress up in my mum’s fancy shoes. My love for fashion came from a very young age. At the age of 10, I loved creating new arts and crafts with beads, threads and materials; always making things for my family and friends.

My Educational Background

I took this passion to college and studied fashion and clothing where I picked up many techniques and developed these into a skillset. I then broadened my knowledge and attended university. In fact, I chose a technical course as I believe a design element comes from within and that I’d benefit more from learning the technical aspects of fashion, design and development.

After completing my Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Technology; I went on to set myself a new challenge by creating my own e-commerce fashion website, selling a range of my own clothing designs to the general public. I started combining the experience from both my placement year and from my studies and driving this experience into this venture. This project ranged from imports designing, product building and price negotiating all the way through to marketing and digitally enhancing images. The website was self-managed through a backend organised system called Magento that handled all sales, stock levels, and website content. Magento is an e-commerce based CMS (Content Management System).

After University

After completing the “Elladee” project, I realised I have always had a passion for technology. By means of the Magento platform, I decided to learn more about how HTML and CSS work alongside each other. I went and set myself another challenge and completed a course in learning Adobe Dreamweaver – at the time it was the industry standard for creating a website using HTML5 to create a ‘responsive’ website design and CSS for styling. ‘Responsive’ is the term given to a website where it’s versatility transcends the computer platform, and the website automatically adapts to devices of different screen size and resolution – notably smartphones and tablets.

The skills I grew from then on led me to create this online portfolio, showcasing my previous and current work examples. I used yet another CMS platform to create my portfolio – WordPress. This is the most widely used CMS on the planet, and I knew that getting familiar with it would lead to many more new opportunities.

Although I have a strong love for fashion, I also have a great interest in fitness and beauty; this has led me to start my own blog. I love to share ideas with my readers and hope to inspire someone, just as I adore travelling around the world and being inspired by different cultures and fashion trends. This adds to my influence as a designer when designing and developing new products, creating graphics, digital art and also video.

Today

Whilst working in the fashion industry for over 5years I felt it was time for me to have a career change and strive for something more challenging and exciting. I dwelled into the world of digital design and web development. Starting off with self-teaching myself about the world of web and then getting myself onto a Dreamweaver course to understand code languages.

Once I was confident in what I had learnt I undertook a range of freelance projects – from corporate to commercial projects. With the success of these, I began my new adventure and entered the world of working for a digital marketing agency!

Today, I work as a digital designer/web developer to create breathtaking, unique websites for large corporate companies as well as e-commerce sites for established brands across the UK.

If that isn’t enough, in my spare time (usually evening and weekends) I love to bake, design and handcraft unique party pieces for special events and weddings.
